Although a pen and paper never seem to fail us, last year we relied more heavily on different technology applications to stay organized, collaborative, and productive. We asked our expert technologists to rank the tools that helped them navigate the remote work environment.

As we analyzed the data, we only considered the top three in each category, but please note that some of these tools have overlapping functionalities.

Top rated Tools to stay Organized

Azure DevOps:

Microsoft’s SaaS platform that provides end-to-end DevOps toolchain for developing and deploying software. Azure DevOps was our number one ranking tool for overall organization, collaboration, and productivity!

OneNote:

The name says it all, OneNote is Microsoft’s note-taking software. It is essentially your digital pen and paper, but it auto syncs notebooks and allows for collaboration with other OneNote users within a network.

JIRA:

Simply put, Jira Software was designed to help teams manage work. This work management tool can be used for a variety of cases from requirements and test case management to agile software development.

Top rated Tools to stay Collaborative

Slack:

Top ranking communication tool, Slack, is a channel-based messaging platform. However, our teams use it much more than to simply message each other. Slack allows you to connect software tools and services, share files and video call all from one platform.

Teams:

Another Microsoft tool that is a chat-based platform and allows for document sharing, online meetings, etc. for team collaboration.

Zoom:

Everyone has used the word “zoom” as a verb this year, but we have been using this video conferencing tool for years. With offices across the country, it has always been a priority of ours to stay as connected as possible; Zoom has allowed our teams to continue to be collaborative.

Top rated Tools for Overall Productivity

IntelliJ IDEA:

IntelliJ an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) designed to maximize developer productivity; no wonder they selected this software for the productivity category. The IDE is written in Java for developing computer software.

Confluence:

In the same family as Jira, both developed by Atlassian, Confluence is a collaboration wiki tool. Our teams use Confluence to compliment Jira. Jira plans and tracks, while Confluence keeps our teams organized throughout a project lifecycle.

Azure DevOps was also ranked highly under tools for productivity.
